Our parents had recently updated the living room and kitchen of our childhood home. One of the updates included the need for a new mantle, but it was hard to find. We discovered this piece at The Old Lucketts Store's Spring Market in May 2014 and learned that it had come out of an 1800s farm house in Maryland.
Here it is! For $130, this beautiful piece was a STEAL!
After we came home from the Spring Market, we immediately took the mantle inside to see how it would look with the new stone fireplace. We were immediately in love. With only a few minor structural problems, we knew that we had found the perfect match for the new living room.
After sanding, structural work, and a little love, this piece was ready to be sealed. We loved the weathered, multi-tone look of this piece, and we wanted to showcase it all. We decided a clear polyurethane would be the best finish for our family's new mantle.
This is the finish product! It's structurally repaired, sealed (and protected!), and accentuates the stone fireplace beautifully!
